About Kate:

Hi, I’m Kate!

I’ve worked in the mental health field for over 20 years, initially supporting a little boy with significant behaviour and emotional needs in my hometown of Toronto.

I moved to Calgary in 2006 to work with young children on the autism spectrum, and with other neurodevelopmental challenges. I then went to school to become a teacher and briefly worked in special education before taking on a management role with a large mental health organization, working in programs for children and youth with severe social/emotional and behavioural challenges.

I have pursued the following education:

  • Bachelor of Arts (Psychology)

  • Bachelor of Education

  • Addiction Careworker Diploma

  • Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology

My psychology registration hours were completed in educational/school psychology where I worked with children with significant neurodevelopmental disabilities, through intervention and formal assessments.

I have also worked in residential settings, in-home, walk-in mental health, and private practice. I have worked in collaboration with police, social workers, schools, correctional centres, and Child and Family Services.

I work with a variety of people. This includes:

  • Adolescents and individuals for counselling

  • Individuals, couples and families

  • ADHD and mental health assessment

  • Psychoeducational, ADHD, social/emotional/behavioural assessment for children

  • Parent coaching/consultation for challenges with children

I am also trained in providing Autism Spectrum Disorder assessments and will be looking to bring this into my practice in the future.

I have a passion for working in the following areas:

  • OCD

  • Adolescents

  • Self-harm and suicidal ideation

  • Personality disorders

I have a holistic doula certification and have training in working with moms in the prenatal and postpartum period. I have also provided supervision to provisional psychologists.

My approach includes working from the following perspectives:

  • Holistic approach

  • Attached based

  • Trauma informed

  • Strength based

I incorporate aspects of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), narrative therapy, and solution focused therapy.

As I incorporate and transition to clients in Victoria, I’m looking forward to hearing your story and working together!
