About Women’s EMDR Wellness
The Women's EMDR Wellness sessions are trauma-informed counselling sessions for adult individual women ages 18+.
These sessions are intended to be of shorter total duration as short-term EMDR therapy (generally up to 12-15 sessions) depending on the goals of counselling and the symptoms or challenges being worked on.
This protocol-based counselling focuses on a structured EMDR therapy process and is aimed at supporting women through growth, change, trauma, transitions and more (see more details below).
Why Women’s EMDR Wellness?
We know many women face ongoing challenges as they move through their lives.
Sometimes we feel stuck. Sometimes our belief systems get in the way. Our goal is to support you in understanding yourself and moving through those self-limiting beliefs.
Many clients find as they let go of their self-limiting beliefs, they feel more empowered to navigate life’s challenges and lean into life’s opportunities with a stronger sense of self.
At Women’s EMDR Wellness, we feel passionate about working together to support women on this journey.
What is EMDR?
EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an extensively researched and effective psychotherapy method. It is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.
EMDR therapy does NOT require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions.
EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories; and, for many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies. To learn more, visit the EMDRIA website at emdria.org
How can EMDR support women?
Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for life challenges that impact women. This may include:
significant life events and transitions (for example, relationships, family, career, burnout, friendships, grief, loss, parenting, aging, perimenopause, menopause, etc.)
anxiety
depression
OCD
chronic pain, and
other distressing life experiences.
What happens at the first session?
The first therapy session is a 60 minute Intake Session that helps us determine together the length, goals, suitability of EMDR Therapy, etc. We will complete some questionnaires and an intake form to help us determine together if this format of a brief or short-term EMDR model would be the right format for your goals and challenges.
Sometimes this brief or short-term format works well, and other times a different approach could be better at this point or more time may be needed.
Our goal is to help you find the best counselling approach that will best meet your needs.
Sessions are held online or in person at our Oak Bay Psychology location (#202, 2186 Oak Bay Avenue, Victoria, BC) or Fairfield Psychology location (1702 Lillian Road, Victoria, BC).
What is the session length and cost?
The first Intake Session session is 60 minutes in length ($189.00).
After that, we offer the following:
60 minutes ($189.00)
75 minutes ($235.00), or
90 minutes ($280.00).
In terms of frequency, we recommend discussing with your counsellor.
Often, booking regular EMDR Therapy sessions (whether those are weekly, biweekly, monthly, etc.) can be helpful…simply so we can work together consistently towards the outcomes you are looking for.
